MTV announced the 36-year-old comedian Russell Brand will host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on June 3.

Ricky Gervais, watch your back. In a move that recalls Gervais's headline-making turn as host of the 2011 Golden Globes, MTV has tapped another British comedian with an oft-unfiltered mouth, "Rock of Ages" star Russell Brand, to head up this year's MTV Movie Awards.

The former Mr. Katy Perry helmed MTV's 2008 and 2009 Video Music Awards, but this time he'll be in front of his peers from the acting world. Will he set his sights on Hollywood, a la Gervais? Apparently, MTV is comfortable with that risk.

"Whatever we end up creating around him within the show, he brings that danger thing as well," the show's executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic said in MTV's release. "We'd love for the show to live there, where you don't know how he's going to react to something in the moment. He's so sharp and witty and on his game that that's an exciting place to live."

Nominations for the show, which airs live on MTV Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m., were announced May 1, with "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" setting the pace with eight nods each. What would you like to see from Brand?
