Savannah Guthrie replaces Ann Curry as co-host on 'Today'

Jun 29, 2012 02:51 PM

Following Ann Curry's bumpy exit from the "Today" show, which came to a merciful end yesterday with a teary-eyed farewell, NBC has lined up her replacement. Savannah Guthrie, a co-host on the show's third hour since last year and chief legal correspondent, will slide over into Curry's vacated anchor chair. Guthrie actually already moved over, co-hosting the show this morning before any announcement was made, though her official start will be July 9.

"Today" executive producer Jim Bell called Guthrie a "standout" with a "one-of-a-kind combination of sharp wit and approachability." NBC News President Steve Capus used similar language to describe the new co-host in a statement of his own.
