Perkins School for the Blind president Steven Rothstein has returned from India, where he and several supporters of the school had traveled as part of a new international partnership, the first in Perkins’s 183-year history. Joining Rothstein on the mission to Mumbai were Perkins parents (and Celtics owners) Wyc and Corinne Grousbeck, as well as Simone Winston, Katherine Chapman, and Elena Matlack. The group met with students and parents at the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Deafblind, located in India’s most populous city. The just-announced partnership between Perkins and India’s National Association for the Blind is intended to boost programs for the blind in India, where 20 percent of the world’s blind population lives.
