Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Lexington company known for its intravenous antibiotic Cubicin, said Monday that it plans to generate $2 billion in global annual revenue in 2017, driven largely by organic growth.

By the end of 2017, Cubist said that it expects that sales for Cubicin will well exceed $1 billion in the United States alone.

Those projections were included in a press release about the company’s five-year strategic goals.

Other goals include having four product candidates in late-stage clinical trials and generating $700 million in non-GAAP annual adjusted operating income, the company said.
