Jul 20, 2012 11:58 AM

A Chicopee man has been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl when she was between the ages of 6 and 9.

Juan Gonzalez was also sentenced this week in Hampden Superior Court to 10 years of probation.

The 26-year-old Gonzalez pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and abuse of a child aggravated by age; two counts of rape of a child with force; one count of assault and battery; and five counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

The Republican ( http://bit.ly/O2tuaJ) reports that prosecutors say the psychological damage to the girl is immeasurable.

The defense attorney had asked for a 10-year sentence.
