Mass. bank robbery suspect killed by police

Mar 24, 2012 12:48 AM

Authorities say a suspect was fatally shot by police and two others arrested after a bank robbery and reported carjacking led to a manhunt north of Boston.

Cara O’Brien, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney, confirmed Friday night police shot and killed a man in Malden and arrested another after the robbery of a bank in nearby Saugus. State police said troopers arrested a second suspect just before 8 p.m.

Numerous witnesses told reporters at a scene near 500 Broadway St. in Malden that there was a shootout between police and men in a car. Police scoured a nearby area for a second suspect.

The FBI said it assisted in the investigation after the Saugus Bank on Lynn Fells Parkway was robbed earlier Friday, but deferred further questions to the district attorney.
